About Joe

The Meet Joe Safety Campaign
An innovative approach to communicating health & safety issues

The conventionally mundane or gruesome options to communicating health and safety issues sparked the motivation behind this campaign.

This campaign includes an informative monthly comic strip poster, each with the objective to portray a different theme brought to attention from real life cases.

BIS Salamis believe that this is a step to effectively build on its safety culture.

THE APPEAL

Novel

The comic strip format is a unique improvement on standard safety posters due to their humorous and ironic nature which attracts attention.

Moreover, the theme changes every month so workers don’t become immune to a poster that merely becomes part of the furniture.

The posters have taken away "hum drum" safety initiative campaigns… workers can get ‘sign blind’ but Meet Joe is different and catches their attention

Personable

The target audience can easily relate to the posters. The characters represent the varied attitudes and characters of offshore employees.

They are not authoritative figures which makes employees more receptive to the information.

SUCCESS

The proactive means of risk mitigation has been implemented through poster distribution to all BIS Salamis sites. They are also used in, pre-shift briefings and safety meetings as a prop.

The posters can be used to spot errors, bring awareness of the consequences, pinpoint areas of concern and instigate discussion

Relevant issues will always benefit from being highlighted, and awareness can be applied to all current and future projects.

Workers can learn from the posters and apply the lessons learnt to their own scope of work… they become more vigilant and more aware of their duties and responsibilities

The novelty and simplicity of the Meet Joe safety campaign attracts interest and effectively communicates health and safety issues. This helps to ensure workforce welfare and secure a sustainable future for the offshore contractor industry.
